God is so great

Psalm 8:3-4

Lord, our Lord, how wonderful is your name in all the earth. I look up at the heavens, the work of your hands, at the moon and stars which you have made. What is man, that you should be mindful of him, the son of man that you should care for him?

It is an amazing thing that we have a God who values us so much, and who loves and cares for us so much, for God is so great and we are so small. So how should we respond to that great love? Once we realise God’s relationship to us, when we feel it deep down in our hearts, things are never the same as they were before. The sun shines brighter, the birds sing more sweetly, even food tastes better. We’re aware of an immense sense of gratitude, and even the ordinary things seem like a wonderful gift, because everything we have comes from God. Every day that we live is a gift, and each day is an opportunity to give thanks to God, to raise him up and to acknowledge his kindness. God made us and we belong to him. Life becomes so much richer and fulfilling once we realise this. Things that seem difficult become a little easier to do because we do them for God. Suddenly we realise how blessed we actually are. And even if we are struggling, or in pain, or faced with seemingly insurmountable problems, still our hearts will sing God’s praises, because he has made himself known to us in his Son Jesus Christ, the greatest blessing of all. Everyday I pray that one day, all of God’s children will come to the realisation that a great and loving God is caring for them and is blessing them, and whose love is so huge that he gave his only Son so that we could have eternal life in him. Let us all pray for this universal revelation, and for the ultimate drawing together of all people in the name of Jesus.
