“He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
Jesus is God, not a prophet, not just a famous historical figure, not just a really good guy, not just a wise man. Wise men are innumerable, but the wisdom of Jesus is the ageless, timeless wisdom of God. There is only one Lord and Saviour. The book of Hebrews is a wonderful book, and its beauty is in its simplicity and straightforwardness. There is no messing about with this author. Jesus is God in the form man, the physical representation of our loving Father, begotten, not made.
God’s glory is present in his Son who is also one in nature and feature with the Father. All things depend on Jesus’ word, and he has the power to uphold the whole universe. Jesus says what happens and what doesn’t happen. Even though he was seemingly at the mercy of the powers of evil when he suffered and died for us, there is no mistaking the fact that he was in control of things right from the start. He is still in control; he only has to say the word and we are healed. His sacrifice has redeemed us and made us worthy to approach the throne of grace.
He sits at the right hand of the Father, and through him all things were made. And he continues to create and make happen all things. Nothing happens that he doesn’t know about. All glory to our Lord, let us praise him until we have no voice left within us, and then let us praise him further in our silence. Worthy is the lamb who was slain.
