“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
God calls us to do his work in the world; we are his hands and feet on earth, and we are here to carry out his will. Whatever we do and whatever we work at, we are to serve our Lord in all things. “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” God has a purpose for each and every one of us, and we know it because he singles us out and tells us. If we listen and pay attention, we will hear the call. Just as Jesus called on the Apostles, he also calls us. The twelve were all different to each other, and and they brought their own individual skills and talents to this amazing team, a group of men who went out to change the world in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have all been called too.
We all have our own part to play and work to do for the glory of God, and for God’s will to be done here on earth. It’s part of the Covenant too, the agreement we have made with God’s only Son. Finding our purpose is not difficult when we let God come into our lives. It’s important to God that when he calls us we know right away what we have to do, because that way we can get on with the work that he has planned out for us. Sometimes a person is called early in life, and sometimes later on, but all Christians, I’m sure will be called upon in some way to fulfill God’s wishes.
What Paul is telling us in this letter is that there is nothing to be worried about and there is no need for self doubt when it comes to following God’s call. Paul says, “God works for the good of all who love him.” When we are doing God’s work, we cannot fail because God is with us, helping, guiding, and strengthening. He lifts us up and makes sure that we are up to the challenge. He will never send us out unprepared; on the contrary, he lavishly bestows the gifts and skills we need to be his fruitful followers.
