Epiphany

Epiphany

Today, January 6th, is the feast of the Epiphany when we celebrate the visit of the three wise men to Jesus, to bring gifts and to praise and worship him as king. Epiphany is a word that means, “revelation” and specifically the revelation of Jesus as the Son of God. The visit of the three wise men is the first in the series of events in the season of Epiphany that show God’s glory. The second is the Baptism of Jesus, the third is the wedding feast at Cana, during which Jesus turned water into wine, and the fourth is the glory of the Transfiguration of Jesus. All amazing events.

Last Sunday, our congregation hosted a guest preacher who spoke on Jeremiah 31:7-14 and his theme was about trusting in God’s plan and how we should be confident that God’s will and his design is being played out in our own lives. He also spoke about understanding what we believe, and how important scripture is in formulating our beliefs, and realising God’s plan for us. He admitted that he hadn’t read the whole Bible and, let’s face it, how many of us have? It’s a big task and some of it is heavy going. But he was very persuasive and mentioned that it is possible and manageable. There are many Bible reading plans available on the internet that set out prescribed daily readings that, if followed, will allow you to read the whole Bible in 365 days. So I thought I’d take on the challenge. It’s become my new year’s resolution. I started a few days late because the plan I chose starts on the first day of January so I had to do a bit of catching up, but that wasn’t too demanding. I’m on track now and I’ve gotten so much out of it already.

Here’s a link to the Bible reading plan I’ve chosen and I encourage you to have a go at it too. Take your time, don’t rush, and immerse yourself in the word of God. By December 31st, you will have read the whole of the Bible.

Cheers and blessings always, Kate.
