Help comes from the Lord

Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
He who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time on and for evermore.

Psalm 121 is a powerful song to remind us that we can trust God one hundred percent to help us in our lives, and each verse presses this point home with passion. When we lift up our eyes to the hills, what are we searching for? We’re searching for meaning, for love, for that higher power, for help. And the author of this psalm answers the question so beautifully; we are searching for God, the Lord who made everything. The psalm explains that God’s help and protection is constant because God doesn’t sleep, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s day or night, our Father is there for us. God protects us from evil from the instant that marks the beginning of our lives until the moment we go back to his arms. Each one of us is a unique creation that he cares for deeply. God keeps us and we belong to him. When troubles abound or when danger is near, God is there for us, always and forever. What blessed comfort this gives us as children of our Father.
