Isaiah 40:31 – But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness. Desmond Tutu
Last Sunday we lit the first Advent candle, the candle that represents hope, and now we begin the count down to that most holy day of the year, the day our Saviour was born. With the coming of Jesus, our relationship to God came full circle and the new covenant was created that bound us to the Trinity in a dance of everlasting love. How can we not be hopeful? Hope is based on a deep trust that God has everything in hand, and as long as we do his will in the world, all things will unfold the way they are supposed to.
Hope is a belief in an outcome despite the signs that point otherwise, and hope is something that allows us to persevere when all seems lost. Hope lets us know that it is God’s hand holding ours through all hours of the day, so we trust in God and hope flows through us like a stream of water that doesn’t run out. Jesus came to show us the light that Desmond Tutu referred to in his quote about hope. Jesus is the light of the world that outshines the darkness. Hope means that we do not let the darkness rule our lives. Instead we look to the light who is our Saviour and brother. Christmas represents the coming of the light of love into the world, therefore let us express our hope in the Lord who came to us on Christmas day. Blessings to you all.
