Thanking God

Thanking God

Today I’ve collected a few prayers that are appropriate to recite after the offertory, and when one is called upon to receive the offering from the congregation. This is usually a time of thoughtful contemplation and devotion, reflecting not only our gratitude to God but also our willingness to do God’s work in the world and to be our Father’s “hands and feet.”

Generous God whose giving knows no ending,
Make us generous in your image.
Make us compassionate in your image.
Make us faithful in your image.
In our giving, hear our heartfelt gratitude for all that you are and all that we have
, Amen.

Bless these gifts and all the gifts we offer, that your kingdom may come on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Father in heaven, we ask that you bless
these gifts that we bring before you
with thanks for all the goodness and love that you give us.
Grant that they be used to spread your loving and your giving in our community,
and for the sake of your church.
This we pray through Jesus name, Amen.

Lord, we give you this offering today and
with it we worship you and give our whole selves to you.
Please take it and use it for your Kingdom and your glory.
Extend and multiply its reach and influence, we pray. In your most holy name, Amen.

From Psalm 54 we sing:
With a free will offering we will sacrifice to you:
we will give thanks to your name,
Oh Lord for it is good. This we pray in God’s holy name, Amen.
