God knows me well

I had no guide, no light, save that which burned within my heart. And yet this light did guide my way, more surely than the noonday sun, unto the place where waited One who knew me well. –St John of the Cross

These words of St John of the Cross are so piercing and true. In a world where we are assailed by so many external influences, confusing us, clouding our judgement, and leading us away from the truth, we can rely on that light burning in our hearts that leads us to the One who knows us through and through. What a comfort and relief to have someone this close and this loving to whom we have nothing to explain. God knows us completely.

Prayer of St John

O Blessed Jesus,
give me stillness of soul in You.
Let Your mighty calmness reign in me.
Rule me, O King of Gentleness,
King of Peace.
